Jesus te ama!! 12/7/23

Luckily this week was a little more chill, but it was still packed full of fun things!!

We had transfers!! I'm staying in Santa Rosa, but I have a new comp! Her name's Hermana Pingrey and she's another cute blonde gringa!!! Saying goodbye to Hermana Gerstner was seriously so sad, it's crazy how close you get with someone when you spend literally every minute of every day with them! But I'm so so excited for this next transfer!! The people here in Santa Rosa are seriously the best!!

Now that I've officially finished my first transfer in the field, I figured I'd give you a quick rundown on Argentina and all of the fun things I've learned!

  • Be friends with:

    • Remi drivers (Andres )

    • Panaderia workers

    • Old ladies that like to bake

  • There are dead, smooshed frogs all over the roads, the other day we counted 20 on the way to our friend’s house!

  • I still haven't tried mate cocido, but terere is soo good!

  • Liver isn't as bad when you don't know that you're eating liver!

  • Men of all ages do wheelies on their bikes as they go past you!

  • People do eat unflavored jello! The grocery store we always go to has a whole aisle of unflavored gelatin, and every time we'd walk past we'd ask “who's eating all this unflavored jello?” Fast forward to our lunch with our branch pres and his wife, she pulls this dish out of the fridge that straight up looks like a giant eyeball. The bottom layer was just unflavored jello with peas, carrots, and cubes of ham in it, then there was a layer of unseasoned canned chicken that of course had more jello in it, and then a layer on top of jello!! It was definitely an interesting meal, but now we know who's eating all of the unflavored jello!

  • The gift of tongues is seriously so real, I can actually understand like a good 70% of what people say, and can usually have a basic conversation without making a total fool of myself!!

On Saturday we made this poster that says “Jesus te ama” (Jesus loves you) and walked around centro asking people to write who Jesus is to them!! Who is Jesus to you?

I honestly don't know how I'm gonna survive without Hermana Gerstner and her cooking, I'll probably just be living off of Gridos ice cream and dulce de leche! Oh and unflavored jello of course!

Our branch has outgrown their little house and is getting an actual chapel!! We were walking past and decided to ask if we could go inside and look and the random construction guy outside said yes!! I've never been so excited over a big room!

These 3 hermanas have seriously been the biggest blessing over the last 6 weeks, God really is too good!

With Christmas coming up I've really been focusing on the theme light the world, and studying all about light!! One scripture that has really stood out to me is 3 Nephi 14-16:

Verily, verily, I say unto you, I give unto you to be the light of this people. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid

Behold, do men light a candle and put it under a bushel? Nay, but on a candlestick, and it giveth light to all that are in the house;

Therefore let your light so shine before this people, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

This time of year is so special, there are people all over the world coming together to focus on Christ!  But there's also a lot of darkness at this time of year. Many people are missing loved ones or are just feeling alone. So I challenge all of you to really try to let your light shine every day. Something as small as smiling at somebody really does have the power to light the world!!

Love and miss you all!!
