a dude under a tree 2/19/24
Wow time is seriously flying by, it feels like this transfer started yesterday and yet somehow we're already in the last full week
Also, sorry in advance, we quite literally took zero photos this week. so if you're expecting something crazy awesome, you're gonna have to wait till next time
Some quick highlights:
The tales of the weird men continue, but luckily we had less of them trying to kiss us, and we've mapped out a pretty solid path to avoid the worst ones!
Fiamma is the cutest ever and did the homework we gave her! We asked her how she feels when she reads the Book of Mormon, and she said that she knows it's true!
We've been teaching this family who has seriously been going through it, money problems, marriage issues, and sick family members, they seriously can't catch a break. On Saturday we get a message from the wife, telling us that they had a fight the night before and that the husband left and went to a plaza, where he slept and that we needed to go help him. After going back and forth for a minute on what we should do, my comp said, “well he is a child of God” and I couldn't argue with that, so we went to go search for him, with no idea what we were gonna say or do if we found him. After a brief look around without results, we sent a message to the wife saying that we couldn't find him, to which she responded with a picture of him in a new place and exactly where he was laying. As we went over to where he was at, we watched the wife and kids take the moto and leave, parking just close enough to watch whatever was about to happen… We said a quick prayer and went over to him, as we walked over we watched him turn around and pretend to be asleep. We awkwardly stood there with a safe distance in between us and this beat up, possibly drunk, fake sleeping man, knowing that his wife and children were watching us from behind the bushes. We tried to “wake him up” a few times but he was as committed as Kenzie was when she would sleep-eat in the car :) After a couple of seconds of awkward silence I did the only thing I could think of, pulled out my Book of Mormon, and said “okay, we're gonna read a scripture”. It was like magic, I looked up and he was waking up from his very deep sleep
We gave him a quick pep-talk, said a prayer (con cuidado) and booked it.
As random as that experience was, it really made me think about the difference we can make in someone's lives. I never in a million years would have stopped and talked to a possibly drunk man sleeping under a tree before the mission (and don't worry mom, I probably won't be doing it much now either). But he really is a child of God, who is so loved, and he deserves to feel that love too. Sometimes I find myself saying “why me?”, but then I have to ask myself “why not me?” yeah I’m just a 19 year old girl living in Argentina trying to learn Spanish, but I'm also a representative of Jesus Christ, and I know for sure Jesus would be talking to men fake sleeping under trees too! And I know for a fact that us going helped his wife and children feel the love of God too which they very desperately need right now!
Wow sorry that was a lot, props to you if you read it all. Anyways I'm out of time for today, love and miss you all so much!
Talk to you next Thursday :)
